01

Background & Academic Journey

Marsha Owusu Saarrah-Akyerekoh is a Ghanaian legal practitioner, academic, human rights advocate and philanthropist whose work is driven by a deep commitment to education, social justice, women’s empowerment and community development. She believes that meaningful social transformation begins when people are equipped with knowledge, treated with dignity and given access to opportunities that enable them to build better lives.

Marsha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Cape Coast, a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from KNUST, and a Barrister-at-Law qualification (BL). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Energy Policy and Sustainability at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, where her research examines the governance of digitalisation and smart energy systems in Ghana, with a focus on regulatory reform for a sustainable energy transition.

02

Legal Practice & Academia

She is an associate at a private legal firm in Kumasi where she also serves as Head of Litigation.

Marsha has combined legal practice with academics. She is a lecturer at Wisconsin International University College and Presbyterian University Ghana. As a legal practitioner and lecturer, she is committed to making the law accessible and ensuring that education serves as a tool for empowerment. She has taught courses including Tort Law, International Human Rights, Jurisprudence, Legal Writing and Skills, African Union Law, and Energy Law. Her academic and professional interests reflect a broader commitment to justice, institutional development, human rights and the role of education in addressing societal challenges.

03

Human Rights & Advocacy

Her commitment to human rights extends beyond her professional practice. She has volunteered with the Bruguil Peace and Protection Foundation, where she served as Head of the Human Rights Department. She currently serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Northern Sector of the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA). In this capacity, she contributes to the association’s communication and public engagement efforts in furtherance of its work to promote and protect the rights and welfare of women and children, advance access to justice, raise public awareness and support the development of a more equitable society.

04

Philanthropy & Community Service

Marsha’s passion for philanthropy is reflected in her practical commitment to supporting people facing social and economic difficulties. Her initiatives have included, but are not limited to, helping brilliant but financially disadvantaged children pursue their educational aspirations and supporting a pregnant mother of six with capital to establish a livelihood, alongside efforts to enrol her children in school. These experiences reflect her conviction that sustainable assistance should address immediate needs while also creating opportunities for long-term independence and development.

Her community-focused work also includes initiatives to support orphanages and vulnerable children through donations and essential supplies. She has championed outreach initiatives involving food items, sanitary products and other necessities for underserved communities, including educational settings and vulnerable women. Through mentorship and youth engagement, she is equally committed to encouraging young people, particularly girls, to develop confidence, understand their rights and responsibilities, and pursue opportunities for personal and professional growth.

05

Founding MOSA Foundation

As the Founder of MOSA Foundation for Education and Social Impact, Marsha seeks to build an institution that brings together education, humanitarian support, civic awareness and sustainable community development. Her vision is to create opportunities for brilliant but needy students, support widows, orphans and vulnerable families, promote legal and civic education, empower women and young people, and contribute to the social and economic advancement of underserved communities.

Through the Foundation’s flagship Legal Educators programme and its wider initiatives, she hopes to bridge the gap between knowledge and opportunity, nurture responsible citizenship and cultivate a culture of compassion, inclusion and service. She is particularly passionate about ensuring that young people have access to mentorship and that communities are empowered with the knowledge and resources necessary to improve their circumstances.

Marsha’s work is guided by the belief that philanthropy should go beyond giving; it should restore dignity, expand opportunity and inspire lasting change. She remains committed to building an organisation whose impact extends beyond individual interventions to create stronger families, empowered communities and a generation of informed, confident and socially responsible leaders.
